Most of the research activities of the department belong to the field of applied mathematics. The focus is on theoretical problems as well as problems connected with implementation of methods in the following areas:

  • mathematical optimization
  • nonsmooth analysis
  • differential equations
  • variational problems
  • probabilistic models of decision support systems
  • conditional independence structures
  • alternative calculi of uncertainty in artificial intelligence

Workshop Variational Analysis and Optimization organized by Department of Decision-Making Theory is a meeting of students and researchers from the department and other collaborating researchers from several Czech institutions. It is held in UTIA's chalet. The scientific program of the first edition of the Workshop will consist of talks given by participants and subsequent discussions on various topics of variational analysis and optimization in finite and infite dimensions.

ManyVal is a series of international workshops on the logical and algebraic aspects of many-valued reasoning. The aim of the workshops is to gather both established and young researchers sharing an interest for a specific topic. Accordingly, each edition has a sharp focus. The attendance is limited in order to facilitate close and informal interaction. There are no parallel sessions. Contributed talks are allocated ample time.
