Welcome to UTIA

The Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA) is a public non-university research institution which administratively falls under the Czech Academy of Sciences. UTIA conducts fundamental and applied research in computer science, signal and image processing, pattern recognition, system science, and control theory. In addition to its research activities, UTIA is engaged in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education. It also publishes the journal Kybernetika and acts as a certified forensic expert institution. UTIA consists of eight scientific departments, computer centre, library, facility maintenance department and business administration department. UTIA is managed by the Director and the Board.

4. 11. 2019 Byly předány ceny vítězům soutěže o nejlepší publikaci.

Prague, October 29 - November 1, 2019

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers with a common interest in the field of mathematical continuum mechanics. Besides invited presentations, there will be a poster session and opportunities for informal discussions.

Jan Kotera and Filip Šroubek from the Dept. of Image Processing (ZOI), and D. Rozumny and J. Matas from the Czech Technical University in recognition of their outstanding contribution Non-Causal Tracking by Deplatting received the GCPR 2019 Honorable Mention at the 41th German Conference on Pattern Recogntion, Dortmund, September 13, 2019.

The Department of Image Processing teamed up with cell biologists from the University of Cambride to analyze the process of how substances are brought into cells. Results of their collaboration was published in the top-ranking scientific journal Developmental Cell.

Institutes of Information Theory and Automation in cooperation with Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague organizes STAT of ML (Statistics of Machine Learning) conference to be held from September 30 to October 1, 2019  in Prague, Czech Republic. The main theme of the conference is rigorous statical treatment of machine learning applied in the field of digital finance.

The conference Prague Stochastics 2019 continues a traditional series of international conferences on stochastics organized by the Institute of Information Theory and Automation in Prague since 1956.

Twenty three exceptionally outstanding young scientists were granted The Otto Wichterle Award, an honour given by the Czech Academy of Sciences. One of them is Ing. Ondřej Tichý, Ph.D. from Adaptive Systems Deparment.
Eva Zažímalová, the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, has given the Otto Wichterle Award in villa Lanna in Prague.

Workshop on Stochastics Informatics and Decision Making  - well known as Alšovice according to the traditional venue of many of the first meetings - is an annual workshop organized by members of the department of Stochastic Informatics of the Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It is an informal meeting of people interested in various topics of information and decision making theories.

Following a longstanding tradition, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, in cooperation with Institutes of Information Theory and Automation and of Mathematics, Czech Academy of Sciences, and Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University organized the Spring School on Variational Analysis VII. The spring school was held in Paseky nad Jizerou, in a chalet in the Krkonoše Mountains from May 19 to May 25, 2019.
