Welcome to UTIA

The Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA) is a public non-university research institution which administratively falls under the Czech Academy of Sciences. UTIA conducts fundamental and applied research in computer science, signal and image processing, pattern recognition, system science, and control theory. In addition to its research activities, UTIA is engaged in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education. It also publishes the journal Kybernetika and acts as a certified forensic expert institution. UTIA consists of eight scientific departments, computer centre, library, facility maintenance department and business administration department. UTIA is managed by the Director and the Board.

The Department of Image Processing http://zoi.utia.cas.cz/research announces open position(s) of "post-doctoral fellow" and/or "junior research scientist".

Ing. Tomáš Suk, CSc. received the scientific title "Research Professor in Physico-Mathematical Sciences" (DSc.) from the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences on May 23, 2018.
 

 

Workshop on Stochastics Informatics and Decision Making  - well known as Alšovice according to the traditional venue of many of the first meetings - is an annual workshop organized by members of the department of Stochastic Informatics of the Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It is an informal meeting of people interested in various topics of information and decision making theories.

On Thursday, May 17, 2018, Ing. František Matúš, CSc., a Member and former Deputy Chair of the Board of the Institute of Information Theory and Automation, passed away. By his death, the Institute is losing a distinguished researcher in the field of Information Theory, whose professional interests covered not only Probability Theory but also Algebra, Cryptography, and Matroid Theory.

The Winter School of Department of Decision-Making Theory is a popular meeting point of students and researchers from the department and other colaborating researchers from several Czech institutions as well as guests from abroad. It is held in the UTIA's chalet.

The program of the 2018 edition of the MTR Winter School will consist mainly of tutorial talks given by participants.

Workshop on Variational Analysis and Optimization is an annual workshop organized by members of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It is an informal meeting of people interested in various topics of optimization theory. It combines a mathematical program in the afternoon/evening with a free program in the morning/early afternoon, when one can enjoy the beautiful scenery, go hiking, skiing or just discuss mathematics. Because of its location on the Czech-German border, it is suited mainly for Czech and German researchers.

Prof. RNDr. Eva Zažímalová, CSc., the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, appointed prof. Ing. Vladimíra Kučera, DrSc. a the Emeritus Researcher at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic for his lifetime successful work and merit in the development of the workplace and scientific field on December 18, 2017
