Welcome to UTIA

The Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA) is a public non-university research institution which administratively falls under the Czech Academy of Sciences. UTIA conducts fundamental and applied research in computer science, signal and image processing, pattern recognition, system science, and control theory. In addition to its research activities, UTIA is engaged in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education. It also publishes the journal Kybernetika and acts as a certified forensic expert institution. UTIA consists of eight scientific departments, computer centre, library, facility maintenance department and business administration department. UTIA is managed by the Director and the Board.

After 15 years the most prominent European conference on programmable logic comes back to the Czech Republic. Organized by UTIA with the help of other major Czech universities active in this area, it will take place in Prague from August 31 to September 2, 2009.

The workshop will be held in UTIA from August 3 to August 6, 2009. The topics concern mainly the central limit theorem and invariance principles for sequences and arrays of dependent random variables. Many specialists of the field already confirmed their participation.

In 2009, UTIA celebrates the 50th anniversary of its foundation. The main celebration, comprising a seminar and a banquet, takes place on February 5, 2009, in the Institute. For more about this event in Czech (including slides and video of the seminar) click here.

Doc. RNDr. Sergej Čelikovský, CSc. was awarded Guest Professor of Wuhan University, China.

Wuhan is the metropolis and most populous city of central China and lies at the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze and Han River. Wuhan University (http://w3.whu.edu.cn/en/) belongs too the most important universities of China with a rich tradition. The award is a prize of appreciation for the long scientific cooperation of ÚTIA and Sergej Čelikovský with china institutions and their experts in nonlinear dynamical systems.

The program of the Workshop will present selected results of theoretical and applied research in the fields connected with the development of models of uncertain knowledge and their applications to computer aided decision making. The Workshop is a part of activites of the Research Centre Data – Algorithms – Decision Making, which was established in 2005 by Institute of Information Theory and Automation in collaboration with eight other academic and industry research groups under the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
