Welcome to UTIA

The Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA) is a public non-university research institution which administratively falls under the Czech Academy of Sciences. UTIA conducts fundamental and applied research in computer science, signal and image processing, pattern recognition, system science, and control theory. In addition to its research activities, UTIA is engaged in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education. It also publishes the journal Kybernetika and acts as a certified forensic expert institution. UTIA consists of eight scientific departments, computer centre, library, facility maintenance department and business administration department. UTIA is managed by the Director and the Board.

The Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA), Czech Academy of Sciences (http://www.utia.cas.cz/) invites applications for two-year postdoctoral   positions in the institute beginning in July 2024. 

 

It is with great sadness that we inform you that prof. Miloslav Vosvrda, our long-time colleague and head of the Econometrics Department passed away on 22.1.2024. . He will be greatly missed by all of us.

The competing papers have been presented at the "Day of Young Authors"  workshop on December 8, 2023 in UTIA.

Tyburec Marek, Zeman Jan: Bounded Wang tilings with integer programming and graph-based heuristics, Scientific Reports vol.13, 4865

Prezident republiky Petr Pavel osobně předal v úterý dne 12. prosince 2023 v Karolinu jmenovací dekrety profesorkám a profesorům vysokých škol. Na návrh Vědecké rady Západočeské univerzity v Plzni Václav Šmídl byl jmenován profesorem pro obor „Elektrotechnika“.

Vítek Sýkora, stážista našeho ústavu, získal první místo na studentské konferenci Otevřená věda v oblasti věd o neživé přírodě. Vítek abosolvoval stáž Počítačové vnímání vzhledu materiálů pod vedením Jiřího Filipa z oddělení Rozpoznávání obrazů.

The department of Pattern Recognition organizes 2nd Workshop on Perception of Material Appearance.

The workshop will be held at UTIA, in room 3, on Monday, November 6th, 2023, starting at 9:30.

09:00-09:10 – Welcome & introduction
 

ÚTIA offers one-year internships for talented high school students within the framework of the Open Science programme of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The offer for 2024 includes a total of 8 internships, 3 in the field of mathematics and 5 in the field of IT. This ratio reflects quite well the main specializations of the institute. Institutes of Information Theory and Automation in cooperation with Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague organizes STAT of ML (Statistics of Machine Learning) conference to be held from  October 5 to October 6, 2023  in Prague, Czech Republic. The main theme of the conference is rigorous statical treatment of machine learning applied in the field of digital finance.
