Welcome to UTIA

The Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA) is a public non-university research institution which administratively falls under the Czech Academy of Sciences. UTIA conducts fundamental and applied research in computer science, signal and image processing, pattern recognition, system science, and control theory. In addition to its research activities, UTIA is engaged in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education. It also publishes the journal Kybernetika and acts as a certified forensic expert institution. UTIA consists of eight scientific departments, computer centre, library, facility maintenance department and business administration department. UTIA is managed by the Director and the Board.

Náš ústav se aktivně podílí na řešení koronavirové krize. Nedávno získal grant od TAČR Město pro lidi, ne pro virus. Inicátorem projektu a jeho vedoucím řešitelem je Martin Šmíd z oddělení Ekonometrie. Spolu s ním a jeho týmem (A. A. Kuběna, M. Zajíček, K. Vrbenský) se na grantu podílí jako spoluřešitelé Ústav informatiky, Univerzita Karlova a firma PaQ research.

Jitka Kostkova, a PhD student of Jan Flusser, has won the prestigeous Joseph Fourier Prize in Computer Science for her work on invariants of vector fields. The prize is awarded by the French Embassy and ATOS company. Congratulation!

Na Internetovém serveru "MM Průmyslové spektrum" byl uveřejněn rozhovor s prof. Michaelem Šebkem, dlouholetým pracovníkem ÚTIA, bývalým vedoucím oddělení Teorie řízení, nyní vedoucím Katedry řídicí techniky FEL ČVUT. Prof. Šebek se v tomto rozhovoru vyjadřuje k současné situaci v českém průmyslu s ohledem na automatizaci výroby, robotizaci a celkový rozvoj umělé inteligence. The Winter School of the Department of Decision-Making Theory is a popular meeting of students and researchers from the department and collaborating researchers from several Czech institutions as well as guests from abroad. It takes place at the UTIA's chalet. The event is organized by M. Studený  and J.Vomlel. The scientific program covers the research interests of the department MTR UTIA and of our invited guests.

The theme of smart, green and integrated transport has been identified as one of the major societal challenges which will be addressed within the framework of Horizon 2020. Strategic Innovation Agenda of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) significantly contributes to the more innovative Europe. UTIA as a member of knowledge and innovative association EIT Urban Mobility is active participant on this challenge.
