The Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA) is a public non-university research institution which administratively falls under the Czech Academy of Sciences. UTIA conducts fundamental and applied research in computer science, signal and image processing, pattern recognition, system science, and control theory. In addition to its research activities, UTIA is engaged in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education. It also publishes the journal Kybernetika and acts as a certified forensic expert institution. UTIA consists of eight scientific departments, computer centre, library, facility maintenance department and business administration department. UTIA is managed by the Director and the Board.

Velké říjnové soft-computingové rokování 2021

VŘSR is a traditional workshop sequentially organized by colleagues from UTIA, IRAFM Ostrava University, and UI. The meeting is focused mainly on the presentation of fresh (inter) results of participating doctoral students and their subsequent discussion in a wider plenary of experienced science matadors. Contributions traditionally come from different areas of uncertainty processing.

Mini-Symposium MTR

The department of Decision-Making Theory organizes a Mini-Symposium dedicated to three exceptional speakers: Silvia Carpitella, Tobias Boege, and Michael Mandlmayr. The Mini-Symposium is organized in a hybrid form. It is possible to participate either in person or connect virtually using the Zoom application. 

Kybernetika: New Editor-In-Chief appointment

The Director of the Institute has appointed Sergej Čelikovský new Editor-in-Chief of the Kybernetika Journal upon Radim Jiroušek's decision to retire from this position. On this occasion she expressed her gratitude to Radim Jiroušek for his good work for the Journal and she wished Sergej Čelikovský every success in following up on the work of his predecessor.

Vladimír Kučera nominated for the Czech Head of National Government Award

Prof. Ing. Vladimir Kucera, DrSc., Dr. h. c. is the Czech Academy of Sciences Emeritus Staffer and the emeritus member of the Department of Control Theory of our Institute. He was Director of our Institute 1990-1998 and long serving Research Fellow of the mentioned Department. More about the nomination on the website of the Government of the Czech Republic:

Milan Anderle received the Best Paper Award Process Control 2021

Milan Anderle was awarded the Best Paper Award 2021 for the outstanding full paper contribution (co-authors Prof. Sergej Čelikovský and Prof. Tomáš Vyhlídal) (Process Control ´21) by Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics. The award is granted in association with Optimal Control Labs.

Základní výzkum ÚTIA vedl k překvapivé interpretaci snímků UFO.

Výsledky projektu GAČR "Řešení inverzních problémů vznikajících při analýze rychle se pohybujících objektů" (2018-2020) s hlavním řešitelem Filipem Šroubkem byly nečekaně brzy využity dne 3. 6.

Jitka Kostková won the Antonín Svoboda Award

Jitka Kostková, a former Ph.D student of Jan Flusser, was awarded by the Antonín Svoboda Award  2020 for the best Ph.D Thesis in Computer Science. The award is presented by the Czech Society for Cybernetics and Informatics (CSKI).

Best paper award Journal of Voice 2020

ZOI team Adam Novozámský, Aleš Zita, and Barbara Zitová were awarded the Best Paper 2020 in the category Basic Science in Journal of Voice, Elsevier (IF 1.9) -  Visual and Automatic Evaluation of Vocal Fold Mucosal Waves Through Sharpness of Lateral Peaks in High-Speed Videokymographic Images. Congratulations!

Jaroslav Kautský

10.2. 2021 odešel náš dlouholetý a stálý zahraniční kolega Jaroslav Kautský. Ač zaměstnanec Flinders Univeristy v Adelaide, South Australia, v UTIA měl svůj stůl a své místo. Spoluautor mnoha publikací, ochotný rádce a glosátor světa okolo. V roce 2013 byly jeho zásluhy oceněny Akademií věd ČR Medailí Bernarda Bolzana za zásluhy v matematických vědách. Bude nám moc chybět.

Understanding locomotion: Nature-inspired mathematical models

Online workshop - 11th December 2020, 15.00-19.30 CET

This online workshop focuses on unraveling locomotion mechanisms of biological systems like swimming, crawling or slithering. The use of mathematical models provides a powerful tool to understand these mechanisms and to design artificial replicas for industrial or medical purposes. The latest findings in the field are presented and discussed, and the dialogue between the mathematical and engineering communities is encouraged.

Otevřená věda - tým z ÚTIA zvítězil

Ve čtvrtek 26.11. 2020 středoškoláci - stážisté programu Otevřená věda - představili výsledky své práce na konferenci Otevřené vědy a jejich úsilí posoudila odborná porota. V kategorii I. vědní oblast - Neživá příroda se na 1. místě umístil tým vedený Dr. Ing. Janem Schierem z oddělení Zpracování obrazové informace - Marie Šimůnková a Jiří Wolker.

Ing. Stepan Papacek, Ph.D. received the scientific title "Associate Professor of Computer and Applied Mathematics" from the Rector of the Technical University of Ostrava (VŠB - TU Ostrava), prof. RNDr. Václav Snášel, CSc. on October 20, 2020.

 

Konference Covid v modelech

Hlavním cílem konference Covid v modelech je představit veřejnosti pokroky v modelování pandemie COVID-19 a jejích dopadů na společnost. Budou v ní prezentovány dílčí výsledky projektu Město pro lidi, ne pro virus, který je v ÚTIA řešen od 1. 9. 2020 pod vedením Martina Šmída z oddělení Ekonometrie.

Matematicko-statistické modelování v boji proti Covid-19

Náš ústav se aktivně podílí na řešení koronavirové krize. Nedávno získal grant od TAČR Město pro lidi, ne pro virus. Inicátorem projektu a jeho vedoucím řešitelem je Martin Šmíd z oddělení Ekonometrie. Spolu s ním a jeho týmem (A. A. Kuběna, M. Zajíček, K. Vrbenský) se na grantu podílí jako spoluřešitelé Ústav informatiky, Univerzita Karlova a firma PaQ research.
