The Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA) is a public non-university research institution which administratively falls under the Czech Academy of Sciences. UTIA conducts fundamental and applied research in computer science, signal and image processing, pattern recognition, system science, and control theory. In addition to its research activities, UTIA is engaged in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education. It also publishes the journal Kybernetika and acts as a certified forensic expert institution. UTIA consists of eight scientific departments, computer centre, library, facility maintenance department and business administration department. UTIA is managed by the Director and the Board.

Uděleny ceny v soutěži o nejlepší publikaci ÚTIA
Dne 2.11.2015 byly oceněným výhercům soutěže o nejlepší publikaci slavnostně uděleny diplomy za jejich práci. Podrobnosti zde.
Research Professor title
Dr. Filip Šroubek, Res.Prof. received the scientific title "Research Professor in Physico-Mathematical Sciences" from the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences on October 14, 2015.
WUPES'15

A series of Workshops on Uncertainty Processing (WUPES) has been held in the Czech Republic every third year since 1988. Proceedings from several previous workshops can be found on their websites ( WUPES'12, WUPES'09, and WUPES'06). Like the previous meetings the forthcoming Workshop will foster creative intellectual activities and the exchange of ideas in an informal atmosphere.

Jan Flusser received the Felber Medal
On June 16, 2015, the Czech Technical University awarded Prof. Jan Flusser the Felber Medal for his outstanding achievements in research and teaching.
Prémie Otto Wichterleho pro Kamila Dedecia
Předseda Akademie věd ČR udělil na základě doporučení komise prémii Otto Wichterleho pro rok 2015 mladým nadějným vědeckým pracovníkům AV ČR. Mezi oceněnými je také Kamil Dedecius z oddělení Adaptivních systémů, UTIA.
Spring School on Variational Analysis 2015

Following a longstanding tradition, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague and the Instutite of Information Theory and Automation of the Czech Academy of Sciences will organize the 43rd Spring School on Analysis.

The School will be held at Paseky nad Jizerou, in a chalet in the Krkonose Mountains, April 19 -25, 2015.

Best Student Paper Award
Jan Kotera, Ph.D. student in the Dept. of Image Processing (ZOI), received the Best Student Paper award at the Digital Photography and Mobile Imaging XI conference at IS&T/SPIE Electronic Imaging held in San Francisco, USA, for the paper "Blind Deconvolution of images with model discrepancies using maximum a posteriori estimation with heavy tailed priors", co-authored by Filip Sroubek.
Winter school of MTR, 2015

The Winter School of Department of Decision-Making Theory is a popular meeting point of students and researchers from the department and other colaborating researchers from several Czech institutions as well as guests from abroad. It is held in the UTIA's chalet. The program of the 2015 edition of the MTR Winter School will consist mainly of tutorial talks given by participants.

International Workshop Marianska II
The workshop is organized in an informal environment of Marianska chalet, owned by the institute. The workshop will be focused on different topics of variational analysis and it is organized by the group of doc. Outrata from MTR department.
Award in Rektorys competition
Ondřej Tichý from Adaptive systems has been awarded the 1st place in the 7th annual Rektorys competition in applied mathematics organized by Department of mathematics, FSv ČVUT, for the work "On Sparsity in Bayesian Blind Source Separation for Dynamic Medical Imaging".
Best publications of 2014
Director of ǓTIA passed diplomas for winners of competition for the best publication in 2014. Awarded are (from the left): Jiří Grim, Milan Studený, Petr Augusta, Petra Augustová, Michal Červinka, Petr Pecha, Filip Šroubek and Jan M. Swart. Congratulations!

Česká národní banka udělila letošní cenu za nejlepší výzkumné práce
Česká národní banka udělila letošní cenu za nejlepší výzkumné práce (Economic Research Award) práci „Are Bayesian Fan Charts Useful for Central Banks? Uncertainty, Forecasting, and Financial Stability Stress Tests“ a jejími autory jsou Michal Franta, Jozef Baruník, Roman Horváth a Kateřina Šmídková. Práce byla publikována v prestižním časopise International Journal of Central Banking.
The Czech National Bank has granted Economic Research Award
The Czech National Bank has granted this year’s Economic Research Award to the paper “Are Bayesian Fan Charts Useful for Central Banks? Uncertainty, Forecasting, and Financial Stability Stress Tests”, written by Michal Franta, Jozef Baruník, Roman Horváth and Kateřina Šmídková. The work has been published in the prestigious and highly selective International Journal of Central Banking. The announcement of the Award formed part of the Czech National Bank’s 10th Research Open Day.

Paper, On the computation of relaxed pessimistic solutions to MPECs, by Michal Červinka and Jiří Outrata (ÚTIA AV ČR), co-authored by Ctirad Matonoha (ÚI AV ČR) has been included in an Editor’s Choice selection of articles for Optimization Methods and Software.
50 let práce v ÚTIA
Pracovníci našeho ústavu RNDr. Vlasta Kaňková, CSc., Prof. Ing. Pavel Pudil, DrSc. a Ing. Karel Sladký, CSc. oslavují v r. 2014 úctyhodné jubileum – 50 let nepřetržitého pracovního poměru v ÚTIA. Dne 24. 3. jim ředitel k této „zlaté svatbě s ústavem“ předal pamětní listy, poděkoval jim za jejich dlouholetou práci a popřál jim mnoho zdraví a životní energie do dalších let.
