Ústav teorie informace a automatizace AV ČR, v.v.i. (ÚTIA) je veřejná výzkumná instituce neuniverzitního typu, zřízená Akademií věd České republiky. ÚTIA provádí základní a aplikovaný výzkum na poli informatiky, zpracování signálů a obrazu, rozpoznávání obrazu, teorie systémů a teorie řízení. Kromě výzkumu je ústav široce zapojen do pregraduálního i postgradualního vzdělávání, vydává časopis Kybernetika a je soudně-znaleckým ústavem v oboru kybernetika a výpočetní technika. ÚTIA se skládá z osmi vědeckých oddělení, výpočetního střediska, knihovny, provozního oddělení a hospodářské správy. V čele ústavu stojí ředitel, Rada pracoviště a Dozorčí rada. Poradním orgánem ředitele je Atestační komise.

ManyVal 2013

ManyVal is a series of international workshops on the logical and algebraic aspects of many-valued reasoning. The aim of the workshops is to gather both established and young researchers sharing an interest for a specific topic. Accordingly, each edition has a sharp focus. The attendance is limited in order to facilitate close and informal interaction. There are no parallel sessions. Contributed talks are allocated ample time.

Outstanding Contribution Award for Jan Kotera et al.
Jan Kotera, Ph.D. student in the Dept. of Image Processing, received an award for outstanding contribution at the 15th International Conference on Computer Analysis of Images and Patterns (CAIP 2013) held in York, UK, for the paper "Blind deconvolution using alternating maximum a posteriori estimation with heavy-tailed priors" co-authored by Filip Sroubek and Peyman Milanfar.

Jan Kotera, Ph.D. student na oddělení zpracování obrazu, spolu s Filipem Šroubkem a Peyman Milanfarem získali ocenění (outstanding contribution) za příspěvek "Blind deconvolution using alternating maximum a posteriori estimation with heavy-tailed priors" na mezinárodní konferenci 15th International Conference on Computer Analysis of Images and Patterns (CAIP 2013) v Yorku, Velká Británie.

The President of the Academy of Sciences of the CR granted The Otto Wichterle Award for 2013 to promising young scientists of the ASCR. Ing. Babak Mahdian, Ph.D. from Department of Image Processing of the Institute of Information Theory and Automation was awarded.

Jiří Outrata čestným hostujícím profesorem na Univerzitě v Ballaratu, Austrálie
Doc. Ing. Jiří Outrata, DrSc. byl jmenován čestným hostujícím profesorem na Univerzitě v Ballaratu, v Austrálii. Ballaratská univerzita patří mezi významné australské university s bohatou tradicí. Jmenování je tak výrazem ocenění dlouholeté vědecké spolupráce ÚTIA a J. Outraty s australskými institucemi a odborníky v oblasti teorie optimalizace.
Winter school of MTR, 2013

The Winter School of Department of Decision-Making Theory is a popular meeting point of students and researchers from the department and other colaborating researchers from several Czech institutions as well as guests from abroad. It is held in the UTIA's chalet. The program of the 2013nd edition of the MTR Winter School will consist mainly of tutorial talks given by participants.

Česká společnost pro ochranu pře zářením udělila cenu pro nejlepší práci madých autorů v oblasti ochrany před ionizujícím zářením Ing. Radku Hofmanovi, Ph.D. z oddělení AS Ústavu teorie informace a automatizace za jeho disertační práci.

Martina Hofmanová was awarded a L'Oréal-Unesco fellowship "Pour les Femmes et la Science"

Martina Hofmanová was awarded a L'Oréal-Unesco fellowship "Pour les Femmes et la Science" of EUR 15.000 on October 8th, 2012 in Paris, aimed to support excellent and talented women active in scientific research.

Martina Hofmanová is a PhD student at UTIA AV ČR, v.v.i. and at ENS Cachan antenne de Bretagne, Rennes, working in the field of stochastic partial differential equations in hydrology and petrol chemistry.

WUPES'12 - 9th Workshop on Uncertainty Processing.
A series of Workshops on Uncertainty Processing (WUPES) has been held in the Czech Republic every third year since 1988. Like the previous meetings the forthcoming Workshop will foster creative intellectual activities and the exchange of ideas in an informal atmosphere. Therefore we will keep the number of participants limited (~40). The conference will be held in the beautiful spa town Mariánské Lázně and it is organized in colaboration of MTR department and Faculty of Management, University of Economics, Prague.

Innovation Award for Cyril Hὅschl
Cyril Hὅschl, a Ph.D. student in Dept. of Image Processing, was awarded the Innovation Award given by The International Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics. The award was presented to him at the 24th International Conference on Systems Research, Informatics and Cybernetics held in Baden-Baden, Germany, 2012.
